What is WARIKAN?

WARIKAN (割り勘) is the Japanese way to split a bill or shared cost fairly among a group.

Examples (3, 5 people, treasurer paid more)

  • Three friends, $90 tab: A paid $50, B $20, C $20 → equal share is $30 each. B and C each owe A $10.
  • Five colleagues, $100 lunch: the organizer paid everything → each owes $20 back to the organizer in one clear list.
  • One person fronted more: enter real payments; coris split adjusts payback lines instead of rough mental math.

Steps (3)

  1. Enter the bill total and who paid what

Open coris split, add a title (e.g. Friday dinner), the receipt total, and each member’s payment. No account is required.

  2. Share the settlement URL

Tap create and paste the link in LINE, Slack, or WhatsApp. Everyone opens the same WARIKAN table in a browser.

  3. Read who pays whom and settle offline

The tool lists transfers like “A → B: $12.” Pay in cash or your payment app. coris split does not move money.

Input example

  • Title: “Friday dinner”, bill total: $90
  • Members: A, B, C with payments $50 / $20 / $20
  • Optional: mark a treasurer to gather paybacks
  • Share the URL in your group chat

Result example

  • Each person’s share (e.g. $30) in a table
  • Transfer list: “B → A: $10”, “C → A: $10”
  • Paid/pending checkmarks for the organizer’s notes

How URL sharing works

1. Create a settlement on coris split. 2. Paste the link in chat. 3. Everyone opens the same WARIKAN table—no login. 4. Edit later if numbers change; the URL updates.

No money transfers (memo only)

coris split calculates shares and who should pay whom. It does not send bank transfers, PayPal, or Venmo. Use the table as a settlement memo and pay each other offline.

FAQ

What does WARIKAN mean?

WARIKAN (割り勘) is Japanese for splitting a shared bill fairly. It is close to “split the bill” in English, AA制 in Chinese, N빵 in Korean, and pagare alla romana in Italian.

Is WARIKAN the same as going Dutch?

Similar, but WARIKAN often includes tracking who paid upfront and calculating exact paybacks—not only dividing the total equally.

Do I need to install an app?

No. coris split works in the browser. Share one URL and everyone sees the same result.
